Nutrition and Emotional Balance

How many times in a rush to get things done throughout the day have you neglected to monitor what you eat? Complained about how you can’t think straight and are so tired?

Whether you are a current or former family caregiver, neglecting your own nutritional needs is a common trait. To this day, I see what happens to my body with food allergies/sensitivities and the turmoil I create when I’m not paying attention. 

I recently started seeing a Naturopath getting to the cause of some of the things happening to me, and it’s beginning to make a marked difference. She spoke about the importance of eating seasonally, something I hadn’t thought about before but it makes sense. Eating fruits and vegetables that are in season are fresher and provide more nutrition.

Author Katie Leadbetter speaks about the positive nutritional effects of doing so have on your body as well as the added benefits of eating locally.

Exercise is also a significant component in your emotional health. Studies have shown that 30 minutes of light exercise can make a tremendous effect on your overall health and well-being. Our Saturday walks hosted by Bay Area Cancer Connections are terrific ways to do just that and connect with other family caregivers. 


The bottom line is that processed foods are convenient, I get it. But they also have a downside that directly affects your health. Something that we encourage you to do all the time is take better care of yourself so that you can better care for your loved one. We won’t stop encouraging you to do that so reap the benefit of looking at how you and your loved one are eating.
