As I grow older, I find myself becoming more aware of my memories – not because I want to live in the past, but because I want to better understand the life I have lived. My memories remind me who I have loved, what has shaped me, what I have overcome, and what wisdom I hope to pass on to future generations.

When I think about keepsakes, I no longer think only of treasured objects tucked safely away in a drawer or displayed on a shelf. Some of my most meaningful keepsakes cannot be held in my hands at all. They live within me as memories of a favorite book, a family tradition, a place that changed me, a friendship, a mentor, or a simple moment that quietly altered the course of my life.
Over the years, I have come to appreciate that spending time with meaningful memories is more than a pleasant trip down memory lane. Reflecting on our memories can strengthen our sense of identity, deepen our connections with those we love, and remind us of the values and experiences that have shaped us. For people living with chronic illness, facing the challenges of aging, or caring for someone they love, remembering together can become a gentle way of honoring a life that continues to have meaning.
Over the past months, I have been developing what I am currently calling Keepsake Memories—a gentle way to tell your story, one memory at a time. Rather than beginning with a timeline or trying to write a memoir, each invitation begins with something that has stayed with you. Sometimes it is an object; sometimes it is simply a memory that has never let go. Either can become a doorway into a story worth preserving – and perhaps, a story worth sharing.
I continue to be amazed by how naturally one memory leads to another. As I become curious about what has stayed with me, I often rediscover stories I had forgotten and gain a deeper appreciation for the people, places, and experiences that have shaped my life. My hope is that others will discover the same quiet gifts I have found by becoming curious about their own keepsake memories—and by sharing them with the people they love.
If this idea speaks to you, I hope you’ll join us for our August Journaling Journey as we continue exploring the stories waiting within our memories. If you’d like to come, you can sign up at the link above – be sure to bring a treasured keepsake – or simply a memory that has stayed with you.
